Carmen Copper builds a spillway in Toledo; holds blood donation drive

18 November 2013

Carmen Copper Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation, recently turned over a newly-constructed spillway to the residents of Barangay Bagakay, Toledo City.

The spillway was constructed along the Yogyogon River to provide safe access for the residents during heavy rains.

The turnover ceremony was attended by Carmen Copper's vice president and resident manager Rodrigo C. Cal, Barangay Captain Ramon Ragodos and the residents of Bagakay. The ceremony was hosted by the teachers of Bagakay Elementary School.

“Daghang salamat sa Carmen Copper ug Atlas Mining. Dugay namo ning pangandoy nga mabuhatan mi’g spillway. Dako ning tabang sa among pagpuyo (Thank you Carmen Copper and Atlas Mining for realizing our dream to have a spillway. This is a tremendous help to us),” said Ragodos.

“We are happy because we have the opportunity to help alleviate the living conditions in Barangay Bagakay. With this spillway, the residents can pass through in times of emergencies without wading in flood anymore whenever there is a downpour,” said Cal.

The Yogyogon spillway project is a part of Carmen Copper’s social development and management program.

Blood donation

Meanwhile, Carmen Copper also conducted a blood donation drive last Sept. 26 in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Eastern Visayas Regional Blood Center.

A total of 108 qualified employees participated in the activity that was held at the Carmen Copper Hospital in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City.

Carmen Copper started the blood donation drive in 2009 and has since been recognized by the Philippine Red Cross as a reliable and generous partner in promoting and contributing to its blood services program.
